ANEW featured in BuildingGreen Spotlight Report

ANEW featured as a case study on building material reuse. By matching companies’ surplus to charities, non-profits, public agencies, and underserved communities, ANEW diverts an average of three million pounds annually of carpet, furnishings, and other assets—although Tourje is quick to point out that with an estimated 1.7 billion pounds of office assets ending up in landfill annually, there’s still a lot to be done.

ANEW founder Rose Tourje on podcast Scandalabra

In Scandalbra’s 11th episode, host Mark Brunetz chats with commercial designer Rose Tourje about her career prelude developing corporate real estate projects worldwide for Warner Bros. and the life-changing moment that redefined her career. With the launch of ANEW, a non-profit committed to Surplus Stewardship, the U.S. based effort annually diverts over three million pounds of surplus from landfills, reallocating these gently worn items to 3000+ organizations in over 20 countries. For anyone with a desire to make a positive impact on the environment, Rose offers great advice on how to be a part of the solution and not the problem.

ANEW Project Manager featured in Bucknell Alumni Magazine

Turner is involved in every stage of what ANEW calls the “surplus stewardship” process, from cultivating furniture donors to working with recipients. A recent highlight was working with the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, a Native American community in New Mexico that was affected by a flood. ANEW’s furniture donations have helped get the pueblo back on its feet.

ANEW and Earthships are both “doing what’s right with what’s left®”

Rose Tourje had wandered into the Earthships Visitor’s Center and met Alayne Meade. Alayne became as interested in ANEW as Rose became interested in the Earthships. Rose asked what was needed at Earthships and Alayne quickly told her they needed chairs for students to use in the Academy class. ANEW did what it does best: It repurposed two truckloads of chairs, furniture and office supplies and delivered them for use at Earthships.

The Responsibility of Discarding Materials Belongs to Everyone

Rose Tourje is the founder and president of the nonprofit ANEW Foundation, whose catchphrase “doing what’s right with what’s left” sums up the organization’s sustainable mission.
