Dogs, dwellings, design…musing upon these topics I then remember meeting Pat Ruiz, an architect and student at UCLA. Pat stopped by the ANEW booth at the recent Dwell on Design expo at the L.A. Convention Center – it all comes together now.
Since the tradeshow we’ve been able to expand on our interests. Pat is currently taking a course in Social Sustainability and was interested to learn more about what it’s like being a social entrepreneur, so we invited her to our Recipient Resource Center featured at the Bentley Prince Street distribution warehouse in the City of Industry.
After a brief tour, Pat met up with Becky Hammer, our Director of Donor and Recipient Relations and myself to ask many great questions related to her project assignment.
Afterwards, I connected a few additional dots of my own. Pat is a creative designer for furry friends by designing their dwellings, or houses. Her website illustrates completed projects for her very special clientele, check it out! These are wonderful/whimsical designs to compliment the primary home on any property. I love the design process that Pat goes through for her clients; form follows function to bring out the very best.
If I could understand my little dog Bella’s wish for a dwelling all her own, I wonder if it would come close to what I envision as her aesthetic…gulp! She’d say something like “I’d like to draw from inspiration at Sunnylands Center in Rancho Mirage, California” ……it’s a good thing I don’t understand Pomeranian!
