ANEW, USGBC-LA and WIJABA “Landfill to Libraries" Community Partnership Initiative Provides Repurposed Furniture and New Carpeting for a Sixth Library Being Built in Chihuahua, Mexico

Donated Items will be Loaded into a 53-Foot Trailer at the ANEW Warehouse on Monday, Dec. 16th

La Puente, CA – December 11, 2013: Asset Network for Education Worldwide, Inc. (ANEW) is preparing to send several tons of much-needed materials to help complete a new library in Mexico, in collaboration with USGBC-LA and WIJABA through the “Landfill to Libraries” Community Partners project.

On Monday, December 16th, 2013, a 53’ tractor trailer at the ANEW warehouse in La Puente will be loaded with repurposed furniture, desks, tables, bookcases, and new carpeting for library #6 in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.

ANEW Founder Rose Tourje developed the Landfill to Libraries initiative in collaboration with Dr. Jorge Partida of United States Green Building Council Los Angeles (USGBC-LA); James Owens of The World is Just a Book Away (WIJABA); and Bruce Berton, ANEW Senior Advisor. This program is another example of how ANEW is turning corporate surplus into community service.

“I am incredibly proud of the way the Landfill to Library initiative is benefiting so many people, as well as organizations locally and internationally,” said Anthony Minite, Chairman of the Board for ANEW.  “Together this collaboration will improve the lives of children and others who are truly deserving while also bringing attention to our mission.”

This Community Partnership between USGBC-LA, ANEW, WIJABA and, most recently, IRS Demo, builds solid and enduring relationships that will benefit children and youth across Mexico by furnishing libraries and prevention and treatment centers.

“This community partnership is forging bridges and bonds in Los Angeles, extending the mission of sustainability and green building across international borders, increasing awareness of our partner organizations, and creating opportunities for members, donors, and volunteers,” said Dr. Jorge Partida.

Bruce Berton added, “The first step to a higher standard of living is education, and now after many years working with ANEW, the opportunity has become a reality!”
